Block B fans angry at MBC’s Music Core

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 08:12 AM PST

The seven boys of talented hip-hop group Block B made their return on the February 4th edition of MBC‘s Music Core with a performance of "Nanrina" from their second mini-album titled 'Welcome to the Block'. Fans would normally be happy about this but many Block B fans were angered over their perceived mistreatment of the boys.

Block B opened the show on Music Core, and some fans took this as an insult because Block B is a hot group making their return and usually the opening of the show is reserved for lesser known artists. Additionally, fans didn’t like the fact that the important dance routine from the beginning of “Nanrina” was cut out. After the broadcast was over, many netizens immediately took to online message boards and utilized SNS to share their angry thoughts.

Netizens commented, “I was so surprised that they cut out the most important dance part. I was also really upset that they put Block B first over the lesser known artists,” and “The cameramen didn’t even properly capture the members performance.

Block B has showed power and compelling choreography through “Nanrina”. Member Zico also had a huge influence by producing 5 of the 6 tracks on their new mini album.

Should fans be legitimately angry or is it an overreaction?

INFINITE directs their own campaign videos against animal abandonment

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 02:05 AM PST

Idol group INFINITE has produced several PSA videos to help advocate against animal abandonment.

The idea was inspired by INFINITE’s dog, Tofu, who became a temporary family member along with two other Jindo puppies for KBS‘s variety show, ‘Birth of a Family‘.

Since INFINITE can’t keep the puppies, they’ve been made available for adoption through the show. Out of the three, Tofu has yet to find a home; he will have to return to the animal shelter if no one claims him by the end. The boys learned that Tofu’s case is similar to that of the 100,000+ dogs who get abandoned every year.

Disturbed by this issue, the members decided to launch a campaign against animal abandonment. The boys ran the entire production, from PR to filming and acting.

In the videos, the members tried to convey the betrayal felt by a dog when their owner abandons them. “We were happy… Were you…. Were you so good to me so that you could do this? Did you not love me?“, they asked.

Each PSA ends with the message, “If they could speak, would you still throw them away?

Check out the first two PSAs featuring Sungyeol and L below!

MBC responds to Lee Hyori’s angry tweets about misreporting

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 01:31 AM PST

MBC Everyone's new show has come under fire for falsely reporting about the places Lee Hyori frequents. The network has promised that they will investigate the matter in order to find out what happened.

An insider from MBC Everyone told Star News on February 3rd that, "Before we created this program about the places that Lee Hyori frequents, we obtained consent from her staff. We changed up the story a little with her staff’s agreement.”

The insider continued, "We do not create programs that lack evidence. Lee Hyori did go into these stores, but we can see that she is uncomfortable with them being called stores that she frequents."

"We will hold further inspections into this matter," they said.

Unimpressed by MBC’s explanation, Lee Hyori left the following message on her Twitter: “Even if you report false information and deliver a fake interview to the public, it’ll probably get hushed up and go unnoticed. The opponent is huge and powerful.”

Wryly, she continued, “For those reporters who are trying to direct the story in a way to make it seem like this is all due to the rashness of a mere celebrity, your intentions are obvious~ Please go have brunch at the place I apparently frequent, and leave me a mention about whether it’s good or not.”

The controversy came about after Hyori vented her anger on Twitter earlier. The program in question is an upcoming program called ‘Daebak Code 777‘, and it contains a section that follows a celebrity for a day, reporting on where they like to frequent. MBC Everyone mentioned several stores and places that Hyori denied having any knowledge about, or only visited occasionally in the past.

Kangta, Gil, Baek Ji Young, & Shin Seung Hoon to serve as coaches on ‘Voice Korea’

Posted: 04 Feb 2012 12:47 AM PST

Prior to the pilot broadcast for ‘Voice Korea‘, Mnet aired a special called ‘Mnet Voice Korea V-Point’ on February 3rd to further heighten anticipation for the show.

The four coaches (Shin Seung Hoon, Baek Ji Young, Kangta, and Leessang‘s Gil) each revealed what they’ll be looking for in the contestants.

Shin Seung Hoon emphasized vocal ability as well as individuality. “There is no absolute standard for music,” he said. “One may possess great vocals and receive a lot of love, but another may possess a distinct individuality that garners love as well. I’ll be looking at both simultaneously.”

Baek Ji Young revealed that she would be focusing her attention on the contestants’ understanding of the songs. “There is one factor that I’ll be looking for specifically. …Since we’ll have to decide on their voices, I think it’s important to look at how well they express themselves [through the song]. Expression and understanding [of the song] will be the main things I’m planning to look for.”

Gil added, “I will be looking for something unconventional. They can be a bit off rhythm. Their pitch can be a bit off. However, when they sing a song that they love, their love for the song must truly be conveyed. The ability to convey their emotions is as important as music itself.”

The final coach, Kangta, revealed that he agreed with Shin Seung Hoon on the importance of individuality. However, he added that a contestant’s potential was one of the key things he would take into account. “I’ll be picking those with individuality and potential. I want to meet someone who has their own unique color,” he said.
