Gaon to host their first ‘Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards’

Posted: 18 Feb 2012 04:30 AM PST

Gaon has announced that they will be holding a K-Pop music awards event of their own called the ’Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards‘.

On February 17th, representatives of Gaon called a press conference, where they asserted that their awards would not make the same errors as its contemporaries; as such, they are promising an awards show of a different, if not higher quality.

Choi Kwang Ho, the executive director of the Music Content Industry Association of Korea, revealed, “I felt that we needed a proper infrastructure to continue the popularity of K-pop. The ‘Gaon Chart Awards’ will be a strategic promotional channel for that.

He continued, “The existing Korean music ceremonies are characterized by unfair distribution, use of illicit methods, favoritism, and eclecticism – resulting in the decline of equality and fairness. The credibility has been lost and viewers have turned their backs on these awards programs.”

“But, the Gaon Chart will utilize a method of selection that has been revealed to the music industry circles and the public, and create a chart that does not deviate from that selection pattern.”

He continued to say, “It won’t be just a party for singers, but an awards ceremony that focuses on the [musical] content, which professionals of the music industry will be also be able to enjoy. We have based it off of film awards ceremonies which honors directors, actors, and screen writers. Gaon will create a ceremony that will be focused around albums, music producers, songwriters, composers, choreography and other professionals  in the music industry.

Havin collaborated already with Japan’s Oricon this year, we will be aiming for Southeast Asia next year. We ultimately seek to collaborate with the representative music charts of each nation to elevate it to a truly global K-pop awards show. We hope to establish a Korean chart in the UK, and create a ‘Gaon Chart Kpop Awards’ that will help make information about K-Pop obtainable to Westerners.”

The first ‘Gaon Chart Kpop Awards’ will be held on February 22 in Seoul.

Huh Gak’s twin brother auditions for ‘Voice Korea’

Posted: 17 Feb 2012 11:00 PM PST

A second blind audition was held on February 17′s episode of ‘Voice Korea‘.

On this day, the show introduced an individual whose face was hidden behind a mosaic. This person sparked curiosity when he said, “I am a professional wedding singer” and “Whenever I finish singing, everyone gathers around me and asks for my autograph. I am searching for my life and it’s waiting for me at the top. I will be there soon.

This person was revealed to be none other than ‘Superstar K2′ winner Huh Gak‘s twin brother, Huh Gong. He went on stage and sang Toy‘s “Is it Still Beautiful“.

Right away, Baek Ji Young pressed her button to choose him. Shin Seung Hoon selected Huh Gong as well, and both judges expressed shock at seeing Huh Gong’s face.

After the stage, Huh Gong said, “I have to find my own path now. My little brother’s already a star.. He cheered for me the most because I took good care of him.

He continued, “I have something troubling me that I want to fix. The thing is, what can I do to create a singing style that will exceed Huh Gak?” He continued, “I was talking about this to him before I came here.”

Baek Ji Young said, “When I turned around I didn’t think of Huh Gak. They are different.” and Shin Seung Hoon said, “The end of their singing styles are different. The beginning part sounds very similar and I almost thought it was Huh Gak.”

Na PD of ’1N2D’ expresses sympathy for MC Mong and Kang Ho Dong

Posted: 17 Feb 2012 10:12 PM PST

PD Na Young Suk recently shared his thoughts about former ’1 Night 2 Days‘ (‘1N2D‘) members, Kang Ho Dong and MC Mong.

PD Na will step down from his position on February 26th. Prior to that, he held a in-depth interview with OSEN, who asked for his feelings about the members on his team. PD Na revealed, “The members that I feel for the most are Kang Ho Dong and MC Mong.

He continued, “It’s because these two are currently in the worst situations.  When we went on the trip for the ‘Korean’s Winter Dining Table’ concept, I remember the words from the lady who cooked sweet potato porridge. She said, “Well off sons are sons of the nation, the sons with debt are my sons.” Those words of wisdom was exactly like how I felt.

Lee Seung Gi is one of the longest lasting members on the team and I am personally very close to him, but Seung Gi is the well off son. He is currently receiving lots of love from everyone and he is someone who will do well in any situation. But, MC Mong is the person that I feel the most for.  Lee Seung Gi and MC Mong are close to me, both as a director and in my personal life, but the feelings I have for both of them are a little different.

Truthfully, what family goes on a trip, eat together, and sleep together every week? There has been a lot of difficulties these past five years, but we fought through them and we became really close with each other. I feel like we have more than a real average family would have.  It’s just as the viewers believe — the relationship between the staff and crew are like family.

Kang Ho Dong is a bit better off, but MC Mong…No matter what people say, I always want to help him find a successful path. Whether it’s him coming back to television or whatever else, I want to help him as much as I can. I  feel really bad for Kang Ho Dong and MC Mong having to suddenly quit the program like that.

Will Big Bang really be able to promote six songs simultaneously?

Posted: 17 Feb 2012 08:30 PM PST

We previously reported that top Hallyu group Big Bang are planning a comeback with a total of six title tracks. This has caused industry insiders to wonder how they will implement such a demanding promotion plan. It also begs the question of how successful they will be with this kind of unprecedented project.

In the past, singers who have had more than one title track has experienced a narrowing down to one main song, depending on the response of the public. For instance, when a comebacks features two or three title songs, the public is quick to determine their favorite track, which causes an automatic shift in promotions towards the popular song.

It seems that Big Bang aren’t deterred by such a history, for it’s been reported that they’re pulling out all the stops to ensure a successful six song blitz. They are planning a number of music videos that will showcase each song’s color and concept, and they have devised a plan that will allow them to overcome the two-song limit of TV promotions.

The individual members are also ready for the challenge. For each song, they have prepared a performance and concept that will let each members show off their unique colors. Furthermore, they have expressed their determination to allow each song to properly shine and prevent the bottleneck effect for one song.

A representative of YG Entertainment was quoted as saying, “It will not be an easy promotion, but we are carefully planning various strategies so that all of Big Bang’s songs will be able to show off their unique styles.”
