My name is Chanyeol. Birth name is Park Chanyeol.
I was born on November 27th 1992. I have an older sister who's three years apart from me.
My older sister, when she say my pre-debut pictures she said "Hey, your pre-debut photos are all on the internet! I didn't even know". Even though she doesn't really talk about stars, she still seems to be really proud of me.
I'm exactly 185cm tall. I haven't been growing for about two years now. And comparing to other people, my ears are more protruding than the rest, my eyes are also very big, not to mention my irregular size of teeth. Haha
So the fans gave me a nickname called 'Wealthy Teeth'. During the fansign not long ago, there were a lot of fans who showed a lot of interest in me, so it felt good.
EXO-K and EXO-M combined makes 12 members, all of them that came out in the teaser. Because many teasers have passed by before I came out, my mother would call me and say "When are you coming out? I'm waiting to see you and hear your sound". My friends would also say "Why aren't you coming out? Did they kick you off the team?" Actually, I was a little nervous.. haha!
From the 1st year of Highschool (9th grade) I became a trainee in SM Entertainment. Honestly, everyone knew about this (that he became a trainee), I was still a little shy.
When I'm in middle school, I became really good friends with a group of people in a band called "Heavy Noise". The band is something similiar to Nirvana, X Japan, and I really liked it. And when I'm in Highschool I was in a band called "Siren".
When we were practicing the choreography for <<MAMA>> I really thought I was the weakest link. Haha. At first we thought "We're so dead" but because of the extra help one-on-one from Kai and Sehun, we really improved a lot, so its a relief.
I have the power to control fire, a phoenix is.... theres no joy. (Kai: This charm is a little weak...) For the next album, maybe there could be use for fire.

My name is Baekhyun. Real name is Byun Baekhyun.
I was born on May 6th 1992. I have a brother who's seven years older than me. Although the age difference is really big but it isn't hard to connect with him. Ever since we were children, we did everything together including shopping.
In EXO-K my eyelines are the best. It's different because the rest of the member has round eyes while mine is sharp, the rest of the members has big eyes as well, and mine is small. Hahaha. If I wear eye liner it makes my eyes look good but, if I take it off people will see me as a completely different person.
Eyeliner has to be drawn in a line. First you'd have to moisten the place you're going to apply the eyeliner and then use the cotton to swab. At first it was hard, but the more we do it the more proficient i get. Now I know why it's important for the girls to do it. Haha.
Because I joined the team later than the rest, the first person I met and befriended was Chanyeol. When I have to go to practice, I would ride the subway or sometimes I would walk, and sometimes Chanyeol would go with me.
When I was in highschool I was the mood maker. I've seen SHINee seniors dance before many times. When I see them I wanted to practice as hard and be as good as them. (KAI: Ever since Trainee days he was really well rounded at everything, he was really popular. If he wasn't going to be an idol what will he be? / Suho: I think he'll be in the lines of performing arts.)
We all have our own individual power, but I'm still the most jealous of Kai's teleportation skill. (Kai: I'm also jealous of my own power too) If we have the teleportation skill, I must see the insides of the bank.
Just like the KBS series <Full House> starring Rain Senior, I want to be able to do something like that too. Though I still have a lot to learn at this point, I would like to try it out. Though i'm not sure if it would fit my style.
For variety programs, I've already prepared many impersonation talents. I could do Oh Gwangrok Senior, but So Soksa Senior I'm still in the progress of learning. But you never know in the future. Haha

[NEWS] Taeyang and Big Bang featured in K-pop book, "K-pop: Mesmerizing the World"

Posted: 02 May 2012 04:48 AM PDT

From a recently published book on Kpop titled K-pop: Mesmerizing the World (People Who Make K-pop) written by Boda webzine editor Kim Hak Seon:

"K-pop and Idol" (opening chapter)

The ten best "idol" albums selected, among them Solar:
- Taeyang Solar (2010)
Solar is the first full-length album by Taeyang, who had, two years earlier, done something rare for an idol group member. With his Hot EP, he had broken through and caught not only the attention of fans, but the attention of critics as well. This full-length album thoroughly satisfied those expectations. In addition to getting the usual support from YG family members like Teddy and Kush, Taeyang expanded his breadth of expression by collaborating with musicians like Jeon Gun and Swings, who are mostly active in the underground scene. And by personally composing a great song like Take It Slow, Taeyang took another step closer to his dream.

Note: The other nine were albums by Seo Taiji & Boys, S.E.S., Untitle, D-Bass, BoA, Brown Eyed Girls, 2NE1, Shinee and Infinite.

The book then takes a look at each decade from 1970 onwards, introducing the most relevant songs and then presenting a selection of the 20 top albums from each decade.

14 songs were introduced from 2000-2010, one of them being BIGBANG's "Lies."

- BIGBANG Lies (2007) (Taeyang excerpt only for now. We will update with the full text about BIGBANG once available):

Taeyang was the first [member] to make a name for himself as a solo artist. He established his own musical world with RnB music at its core, the music he had studied and practiced for so long. The two albums he released were well received by not only the BIGBANG fandom, but also by critics. He has positioned himself as not just a member of BIGBANG, but as a commanding presence [literally, axis] in the Korean RnB scene.

Note: The majority of the songs introduced in this chapter are mainstream (major label) songs that helped spread K-pop internationally – Tell Me, Hug, Gee, Number 1, 10 Minute, How to Avoid the Sun, etc.. The exceptions were from Garion, Huckleberry Finn and Jang Gi Ha.

Note: Comparatively, the 20 albums selected are mostly from "minor" [label] musicians, exceptions being DJ DOC, Brown Eyes, Lee SoRa and Taeyang.

Taeyang, Hot (2008)
Taeyang is an unusual idol singer who has long known what he wants to do and what he can do best and has never stopped working [toward that vision]. As a result, Hot is a "prepared" album. And Taeyang had superb assistance behind him. YG Entertainment, Teddy included, understood and produced precisely the kind of music Taeyang wanted, and Taeyang dressed that music with his unique voice. The expectations that began with Hot changed to conviction with the full-length album Solar.

The 20 albums selected, chronologically:

DJ DOC The Life
No Brain The Song of Youthful Rioter
DJ Soulscape 180gm Beat
Julia Hart Light Breathing
Lucid Fall Lucid Fall
Brown Eyes Vol. 1
Yeon Young-Suk Factory
Verbal Jint Modern Rhymes
Sinawi Vol. 8
Vaseline (2002)
Jang Pil-Soon Vol. 6
Cocoa(?) Superstar
Kim Doo-Soo Free Spirit
Garion Garion
Huckleberry Finn Vol. 3
Lee So-Ra Eyelash Moon
Taeyang Hot
My Sister's Barbershop The Most Ordinary Existence
Seoul Electric Band Life Is Strange
2NE1 Mini, Vol. 1

About the book:

What a timely subject. With the ongoing popularity of K-pop music, fans or even just non-fans might have wondered once where the roots of it all came from.

The author, who has covered popular Korean music for various media outlets, sees the foundation from 1970s Korean music. There were such unexpected gifted musicians as Han Dae-soo, a singer-songwriter who introduced folk music to the public, Shin Joong-hyun, also a singer-song writer and a rock guitarist and Sanwoolim, a trio of brothers who popularized their version of rock music.

The music and the work these musicians produced gave way to slew of popular singers in 1980s including legendary Cho Yong-pil, and Korea's Madonna Kim Wan-seon. The '80s musicians pass the baton onto Shin Seung-hoon and Seo Taiji and the Boys in the 1990s and BoA and TVXQ in the 2000s.

The writer notes how fan culture first sprouted with the 1970s musicians, that Kim Wan-seon was one of the first "idol" stars who spent many years preparing before her debut, a career path taken by so many of present stars including BoA and TVQ.

[INTERVIEW] U-Kiss grows up after six months away in Japan

Posted: 02 May 2012 04:28 AM PDT

The seven members of boy band U-Kiss had to adapt to new foods and a new language during their six-month stay in Japan, but the hard work paid off, as it often does for Korean performers there. U-Kiss' first album released in Japan, "A Shared Dream," and the EP "Forbidden Love" landed in the No. 2 and No. 5 spots on Oricon's weekly chart, respectively, and the band successfully completed their first tour of Japan in March.

But in the fast-paced world of K-pop where dozens of groups come and go in a flash, six months can seem like a lifetime, and fans can grow impatient with their favorite stars.

"We are quite nervous about that. I heard some of our fans actually moved to other fan clubs," said AJ, one of the members of U-Kiss. "But we can take them back. We also grew up while we were in Japan."

Ilgan Sports caught up with the boy band members after they returned to Korea on April 25 to talk about the pros and cons of their time abroad as well as their new EP "Dora Dora."

Q. When did you first realize your music was well accepted in the Japanese market?

Ki Seop: [The realization] came when the first regular album landed in the No. 2 spot on Oricon's weekly chart [in early March]. Our Japanese agency Avex told us that it didn't take long for us to gain ground in Japan, and I could see more and more Japanese fans at every concert we had there.

How many Japanese fans would come to a solo concert for your group if you held it today?

Soo Hyun: I bet we could fill the whole Super Arena in Tokyo [which holds up to 37,000 people]. In the countryside, we might attract around 3,500 people per each concert. We're preparing for 15 concerts to be held in nine Japanese cities in July. Our goal is to attract a total of 45,000 fans.

How did you change your approach for Japanese fans?

Dong Ho: Most Japanese put distance between celebrities and themselves. They kind of admire entertainers, but we try to act like their friends. We also shook hands while making eye contact after each concert. This is how we approached Japanese fans. For this reason, they say we are like their family and friends.

Many new boy bands have debuted while you were away from Korea. How does this make you feel?

AJ: Looking at boy bands these days, they are perfect in so many ways. They can sing and are also very handsome. It makes us a little nervous. I heard some of our fans actually moved to other fan clubs while we were away. But we can take them back; we also grew up while we were in Japan. If we can show our newly gained depth to Korean fans, we still have a chance to win the game, I think.

What was it like to work with famed composer Kim Hyung-seok for your new EP?

Soo Hyun: He's famous for ballad songs, so we were quite curious to know what it would be like to work with him. After we did, we all quickly realized why he has become the best in his field. He gave us masculine songs that also have mass appeal. He flied to Japan while we were having a concert in March to point out the strong and weak points of each member. I appreciate his hard work.

Tell us about the title track of your new EP "Dora Dora."

Soo Hyun: We tried to become sexier with this song. Our choreography, clothes and even our facial expressions were all calculated to exert our sexiness. For example, we wear red see-through clothing.

Back in Japan, we listened to more than 100 songs to choose a title track. All the members and our management company agreed that this album is quite important to us. We chose this song after many nights of discussions.

Most management companies stop boy band members from going on dates. But all of you are now free to go on dates. How do you feel about this?

Hoon: The head of our management company told us that we're now allowed to be in relationships but that we have to date in secret. [Laughs.] The ban was technically lifted, but it's hard for us to go out and find girlfriends. I think we're less popular than members of other boy bands.

It's already been five years since your debut. Where do you see yourselves on your 10th anniversary?

Dong Ho: We hope to release an album that will celebrate 10 years together. A world tour would also be on our to-do list. If we could start a tour in Seoul and then travel to other countries for a year, that would be fantastic. I want to become like Shinhwa. The group's recent tour just thrills me.

[Shinhwa is a six-member Korean boy band that debuted in the late 1990s. Unlike most pop groups which disband after five or six years, Shinwha is still together. The group recently released a new album and is on an international tour.]

What are your plans for the near future?

Kevin: We're going to go to Colombia next month. We will represent Asian performers and share the stage with Shakira, Ricky Martin and Pitbull. I heard that Colombian fans are looking forward to seeing us, and we're excited about that. I also want to see Shakira's "hip dance" in person. I'll barge into her dressing room and take a photo with her!

What would you most like to do in the next year?

Eli: I want to become No. 1 on a local music show. Many people associate U-Kiss with a couple of our tracks such as "Man Man Ha Ni" ["Am I That Easy"] and "Bingeul Bingeul" ["Round and Round"], but I want to impress people with other songs that could appeal to audiences regardless of gender or age.
