Girls’ Generation’s debut Japanese album certified “Million” by RIAJ

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 09:06 AM PDT

Girls’ Generation has broken through the “Million” plateau in Japan.

Their self-titled debut Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation‘ which was released back on December 28, 2011 has been certified “Million” by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (or 'RIAJ'). The certification is based off the total numbers of CDs and DVDs sold to retailers and the RIAJ has certifications of: Gold (100,000 units), Platinum (250,000 units), Double Platinum (500,000 units), Triple Platinum (750,000 units), and Million (1,000,000 units).

This is quite an accomplishment as the only other Korean artist to be certified Million for an album was BoA who last achieved this back in 2005 with her compilation album ‘Best of Soul‘. KARA‘s second Japanese album ‘Super Girl‘ could be the next to be certified Million as they achieved the Triple Platinum certification.

In related news, Girls’ Generation is set to release their upcoming Japanese single "PAPARAZZI" on June 27th.

Congratulations to Girls’ Generation!

Dalmatian reveals how they made their beastly transformation

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 02:46 AM PDT

Well into their promotions for their State of Emergency‘ comeback, Dalmatian sat down with Ilgan Sports for a heartfelt interview on the changes they’ve undergone during their hiatus.

Check it out below!

-

Q. “A new member joined.”

Jisoo: “Rapper Simon joined. He was born in America, but his nationality is Japanese. His father is Korean, and his mother is Japanese.”

Q. “How has your image changed?”

Simon: “We prepared our album with an air of desperation thinking that this could be our last album ever. Out of our desperation, we found an image that fit us well. Since we’ve done the cute concept to death, we wanted to show something stronger this time.”

Q. “Looks like everyone got more muscular.”

Inati: “We all worked out to shed our young sheep image and transform into beasts. All of us gained about 11 pounds (5 kg) in muscle mass. Jisoo used to weigh 123 pounds (56 kg), but now he’s up to 141 pounds (64 kg) by just developing muscles alone. Daniel’s muscle to fat ratio is on par with that of an athlete’s.”

Q. “How have you changed musically?”

Youngwon: “We used to sing light and bright songs, but our recent album is full of darker, heavier songs.”

Q. “Can you introduce your title track?”

Daniel: “Our album’s title track is ‘E.R.‘ We compared the urgent feeling of watching one’s lover leave you to the state of an emergency room. I think it fits our team’s situation well. We also switched up the choreography with new things several times.”

Q. “Review your last album with an unbiased approach.”

Jisoo: “Ranking in at 11th on a music program was like poison to us. It made us feel more comfortable, but also more lax with our performances. The public proved to be cold, as we dropped in ranking the next week and concluded our promotions hastily.”

Q. “It’s the battle of the idols lately.”

Inati: “We’re not scared (laughter). There are a lot of popular teams, but I’m actually glad about that. I’d love to go up against others in a true competition battle because it’d be a greater meaning of success if we survived it.”
