allkpop TV Guide: Big Ep. 3

Posted: 12 Jun 2012 05:22 AM PDT

Official Synopsis: 18-year-old Kang Kyung Joon's (Shin Won-Ho) spirit suddenly becomes transplanted into the body of 30-year-old Seo Yoon Jae (Gong Yoo). Seo Yon Jae is a successful doctor who is engaged to high school teacher Gil Da Ran (Lee Min Jung). Gil Da Ran just so happens to be the teacher of 18-year-old Kang Gyung Joon. More problems ensue when 30-year-old Seo Yoon Jae falls in love with another woman.

Ratings: Although ratings for MBC‘s ‘Light and Shadow‘ decreased to an 18.7%, the drama still held onto its first place crown. Meanwhile, both SBS‘ ‘The Chaser‘ and KBS‘ ‘Big‘ have been enjoying an increase of ratings with a 10.6% and 8.4%, respectively. With a surge in ratings for both shows, it only means more competition for the two and also for ‘Light and Shadow’.

Recap of Ep. 3: While Kyung Joon is shocked at Se Young’s (Jang Hee Jin) abrupt love confession, Se Young tries to spend time alone with “Yoon Jae”, sending Da Ran on an errand. However, Kyung Joon rejects Se Young’s invitation to drink tea together and carries Da Ran back into Yoon Jae’s apartment. Kyung Joon then tries to convince Da Ran that Yoon Jae is a two-timer, which Da Ran just believes is a misunderstanding.

Angry that Da Ran doesn’t believe him, Kyung Joon leaves the apartment and meets up with Se Young again. Se Young takes him to a bar, where Kyung Joon becomes drunk easily after a few drinks. The next morning, he wakes up to an unfamiliar surrounding and realizes that it’s Se Young’s home. Alarmed at the thought of what might have happened last night and what he had done with Yoon Jae’s body, Kyung Joon grabs his clothes and runs home. There, he sees Da Ran waiting patiently for him and pretends to have been out jogging.

Still disturbed by the mystery of ‘that night’, Kyung Joon discovers Yoon Jae’s packed suitcase and passport, realizing that there was a possibility to escape to a different country. While waiting at the airport, Kyung Joon gets his phone fixed and is flooded by unread text messages from his friend in the States, Jang Mari (miss A‘s Suzy). Belatedly realizing that Mari had arrived in Korea and that she had discovered the school he went to after posting a photo of Teacher Gil, he hastily rushes to the school.

Much like the entrance of Kyung Joon when he had arrived in hives, Mari awkwardly interrupts the assembly by walking straight towards Da Ran and demanding money for a cab ride while spotting Kyung Joon. Luckily, Kyung Joon follows immediately afterwards with his grand interruption of the school assembly. As Da Ran introduces Kyung Joon (in Yoon Jae’s body) as a person who knows Kyung Joon, Kyung Joon takes charge of the situation and tells Mari to return to America, explaining that Kyung Joon doesn’t want to see Mari after his mother’s death. Still determined, Mari tells Kyung Joon (in Yoon Jae’s body) that she will marry Kyung Joon.

Meanwhile, Da Ran catches Yoon Jae’s suitcase and asks Kyung Joon if he created any trouble, since he’s trying to run away. Kyung Joon admits that he was over at Se Young’s house overnight and doesn’t remember what happened, angering Da Ran at Kyung Joon’s carelessness over Yoon Jae’s body. The two become embroiled in a heated fight, which Kyung Joon regrets after eating lunch that Da Ran had made for him. The two reconcile after Kyung Joon tries to apologize and go to the hospital to submit his leave. The two then run into Yoon Jae’s colleagues.

During dinner time, the doctors, Kyung Joon, and Da Ran discuss the time when Yoon Jae had first fallen in love with Da Ran. One of the doctors confesses that Yoon Jae had fallen in love with Da Ran before she had fallen down the flight of stairs, as he had followed her all throughout the wedding from her arrival in the elevator and even asked his friend to introduce them to each other.

Da Ran is delighted that Yoon Jae had loved her and thought she was beautiful. While Kyung Joon dismisses the discussion, he does ask about what stage Yoon Jae and Da Ran got up to. Da Ran is able to handle the hand holding and shoulder holding, but gets nervous as Kyung Joon leans in for a kiss…

kdramacrazy's Thoughts:

[Note : This post reflects the opinions of the author, and not necessarily those of allkpop.]

I love, love, love the relationship playing out between Kyung Joon and Da Ran. That about-to-kiss ending moment? Gosh, I love the conflict with that one kiss (or attempt) because it’ll most likely start the emotional conflict and confusion between Kyung Jong and Yoon Jae for Da Ran as well as the questioning of Kyung Jong about his emotions/romantic feelings for Da Ran, whether he’s acting as Yoon Jae or his true self. Additionally, the bickering, but reconciling relationship between the two just make their relationship so much more adorable and ship-worthy. When they fight, it’s not the usual melodrama “I love you, but I’m going to act like I don’t” or some other frivolous romantic fight, but more like their relationship is paving a path for character growth as Kyung Joon is learning to connect emotionally to people (with his rehearsal of apologies) and Da Ran learning to leave the innocent, fairy tale world (and let’s hope she grows a backbone too).

While I loved all the cute moments in the third episode, I did feel the episode was meandering a bit and didn’t really have any substance until the dinner scene with the doctors. But, maybe that’s because the exposition and character map were being set up. Nevertheless, I was disappointed that Kyung Joon and Da Ran weren’t trying harder to find a way to switch bodies. While I like how Da Ran’s character is going as she’s starting to care a little about Kyung Joon’s school life, I just hope it’s soon so that she isn’t so infatuated with Yoon Jae. And speaking of Yoon Jae, I’m interested in the new complication Yoon Jae’s past will bring. Contrary to what Kyung Joon was pointing out, I think Yoon Jae fell for Da Ran for her character more than her looks as he observed her from the back. Man, is he a two-timing jerk or just a misunderstood guy?

And for all the miss A fans, a little about Jang Mari. I like the new character dynamic she has with both Kyung Joon and Da Ran’s brother. Suzy’s acting did improve from ‘Dream High‘, and I like how much power she has over Da Ran’s brother. Mari is the key to Kyung Joon’s mysterious family and past, so I’m interested to see where her character will lead us.

Grab the Look: Wonder Girls’ “Like This”

Posted: 12 Jun 2012 01:45 AM PDT

Have no fear the Wonder Girls are here, and they’re leading the way to a world full of bright and exciting color. Their latest music video for “Like This” has a casual, laid back style that encourages listeners to get up and join in on the fun. Time to prepare for those Summer dance offs in bright and fun neon colors.

The lovely Wonder Girls are right on trend by incorporating bright neon colors into outfits. It’s an easy way to breathe new life into any wardrobe. But with so much color out there, it can be hard to know where to start. After all, until recently, lime green has not been a wardrobe staple.

The key to overcoming the fear of mixing bright colors with bold patterns is by grounding them against a neutral tone, such as white, nude or black. Additionally, the vibrant color should be the statement in the piece so the silhouette of the garment should be simple with crisp, clean lines. Neon is also a fun addition in prints, tie-dyes, and shoes as well as an easy way to brighten up any favorite outfit.

Dance along to the Wonder Girl’s latest hit ”Like This” wearing your own take on the outfits below.

1. Colorblock Dress @ Forever 21 $24.80
2. Studded Jacket @ Zara $89.90
3. Slit Back Top @ Topshop £32.00
4. Flounced Floral Dress @ Forever 21 $15.80
5. Tie Dye Short @ Urban Outfitters $49.00

A Pink members discuss their concept change, comeback, and Girls’ Generation

Posted: 12 Jun 2012 12:37 AM PDT

‘Fairy Idol Group’ A Pink has changed. The young girls with an adorable charm have transformed into more feminine women. The girls let out a laugh as they said, “It’s nice to be promoting after a long while. The busier we are, the happier we are!

A Pink, who won the Best Rookie Award after debuting with “I Don’t Know” in 2011, received a #1 K-Chart win with “My My” on Mnet’s M! Countdown, and the members of their fan club ‘Pink Panda‘ are growing in number by the day. But how do the girls feel when reflecting back on their productive year?

Our problem is that we should take better care of our [public image] now that it’s been a year since our debut, but we walk around with bare faces and comfortable clothing,” they said. “We once got in trouble for being too loud while jumping rope outside. There’s no mystery to us.”

The girls are being dubbed as the ‘Fairy Idol Group’, and it seems as though no one would mind their bare faces, but member Hayoung revealed, “We diss ourselves pretty badly. We compliment other people often, but the unnis get annoyed when they’re told they’re pretty.” The girls revealed that they themselves feel average when they see pretty people on the streets or in the industry.

The members were then asked who they thought was the greatest beauty in the industry. Unanimously, A Pink voted for Girls’ Generation. “They are seriously so pretty, our jaws drop when we see them. We really like senior Tiffany because she displays her affection for us. We also like senior Nicole. They are angels.

We all have reserved personalities, so we are not good at talking to people first,” the girls explained. “But we admire whoever comes to talk to us first.”

The ‘Compass Dance’ is the highlight of their title song “Hush” from the girls’ first formal album, ‘Une Anee‘. The dance complements the members’ long shapely legs, effectively captivating the hearts of their uncle fans. It took a lot of work, according to the girls. In order to make sure the members legs were all at the same angle no matter what shoes they were wearing or where they were standing, the girls rehearsed the dance on cement, at the parking lot, and more. The rehearsals went well, but their first stage performance was reportedly difficult, as they could not get used to the grooves of the stage. But now, the girls have grown accustomed to the stage and are doing just fine.

A Pink released their first formal album ‘Une Anee’ on May 19th. The members who displayed their adorable charms with “I Don’t Know” and “My My” have returned with a more feminine and mature look with “Hush”.

We worried a lot about this album, as we released a formal album rather quickly for a rookie [group], and we had changed our concept,” the girls admitted. “But once we become set on a fixed concept, it’s possible for people to assume that that’s all we can show them. We wanted to show you a different side of ourselves to prove that we can appeal with different charms, too.”

Other than their title song “Hush”, there are 9 additional songs on the new album that Park Chorong has personally penned the lyrics for. All of the members have actively participated in putting this album together, as it is their very first formal album.

Because of our long hiatus, we feel extremely happy every time we stand on stage,” A Pink added. “We want to achieve a #1 win on a music program, and it would be nice if we could obtain a triple crown this year.

JYJ’s Junsu achieves a new record on Gaon Chart with ‘TARANTALLEGRA’!

Posted: 12 Jun 2012 12:05 AM PDT

JYJ Junsu‘s solo album, TARANTALLEGRA, is seeing a lot of success despite the lack of broadcast promotions.

It has passed the 120,000 sales mark, achieving a new record on Gaon! A Gaon Chart representative commented, “XIA – TARANTALLEGRA has reached the 120,000 mark last week, and recorded the highest number by a solo artist on Gaon Chart… This is the biggest number of sales for a solo artist since Gaon Chart was established. Even though there hasn’t been any broadcast promotions, because this is an album with a variety of genres incorporated into it, it has brought in new fans in addition to existing fans.”

As well as his domestic success in Korea, Junsu’s music video is gaining interest in China. Back in May, the music video for ‘TARANTALLEGRA’ achieved first place on Chinese music video website Yin Yue Tai‘s monthly chart. Junsu’s record label representatives from C-JeS Entertainment commented on the feat, saying, “We know that the people of China have difficulty in accessing Youtube and Twitter, and that any album that rises on their music video site reflects the public interest and standards of China. There is a great significance attached to [Junsu's] accomplishment, especially considering the fact that ‘TARANTALLEGRA’ ranked above the music videos of Super Junior and Taetiseo, who both have had broadcast performances and promotions.”

Furthermore, Junsu’s Asia Tour is in the process of achieving great success. This past May, Junsu held a series of 10 concerts at the Jamsil Stadium in Korea, selling out 15,000 seats. His tour stops in Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan, have also sold out.

In light of Junsu’s recent achievements, C-JeS Entertainment’s CEO Baek Chang Joo stated, “We expected the restriction from broadcasting activity, and decided to take a more direct approach. We set our goals on making an album of 12 songs, enlisting the best American choreographer, and organizing a series of perfect concerts. Furthermore, we produced a world class quality music video and didn’t hesitate in investing in it, and the outcome was a success. I believe this was possible because we had belief and confidence in Junsu’s ability as an artist.

In other news, Junsu recently posted the dance version of his TARANTALLEGRA on Youtube. Make sure to go and see what all the buzz is about!
