The stage for South Korean singer Xia Junsu at JITEC Mangga Dua on Saturday night was far from grand, but that did not stop the fans from being amazed by his live performance.
After more than a one-and-a-half hour delay, the concert finally started at 8:40 p.m. with Xia appearing in a blue outfit, the same color as his hair, which he said was own special preparation after learning that Indonesia was an archipelagic country.
He started the concert with 'Breath', one of the songs from his first solo album, Tarantallegra, launched in May, and followed up with 'No Gain'.
Indonesian fans screamed their lungs out during the concert, waving red light sticks that swayed back and forth with the music.
Xia, who previously promised to try to communicate in Indonesian, fulfilled his intent when he introduced himself saying "Apa Kabar? Saya Xia. Saya senang bertemu kalian" (how are you? I am Xia. I'm pleased to meet you all).
He continued the concert with ballad songs 'Lullaby' and 'Intoxication' until the 17th song 'Fallen leaves'.
In the middle of his performance, Xia also showed his quality as a musical performer by singing three of songs from his musical performances 'The last dance' from Elizabeth; 'Why don't you love me' from Mozart and 'I am, I am music' from the Tears of Heaven musical, complete with a theatrical act.
"The concert was amazing, even though I was a bit upset with the delay. Junsu had showed us that he really is a quality singer," audience member Hany Zakiyah told The Jakarta Post.
She said the performance was worth the Rp 1 million (US$106) she spent to buy the festival ticket.
Xia, a member of trio JYJ, along with Park Yoochun and Kim Jaejoong, had hoped to hold a concert in Jakarta last year but the plans were cancelled due to unclear reasons.
"Xia's concert is a cure for my disappointment over JYJ's concert cancellation last year," Hany said.

"Out of all the 20 year old solo female singer's concerts in Korea, how many of them will be able to hold a concert this successful?"
On the 3rd at the Peace Hall in Kyunghee Unviserity, IU held her first nation-wide solo concert.
From IU's amazing vocals and a fairytale-like stage to the large orchestra and band and their splendid performance. Although it seemed like the echos from the music were fighting with IU's singing, it did not negatively affect the overall performance.
'Cruel Fairytale', 'You and I', 'Peach', 'Nagging', 'Every End of the Day', 'Marshmallow' and other various hit songs got a lot of cheers from the male fans and all the fans were on the edge of their seats when watching IU dance to Black Eyed Pea's 'Boom Boom Pow', Rain's 'Rainism' and Hyuna and Jang Hyunseung's 'Trouble Maker'.
Even though it was IU's first solo concert, she was able to control her audience well. Through her witty comments and variety of expressions, she was able to give off the impression of a older sister, little sister, and a daughter all at once. Although on stage there was only 1 IU, the emotions that each audience member felt were all different.
IU was very considerate of everyone who was there. She considered how the male fans would feel, she frequently gave little speeches that were aimed towards the female fans, and she paid close attention to the people who were sitting on the 2nd and 3rd floor since they would have a hard time looking at her. Although there were a lot of young fans, she sang couple of old songs in order to please the older fans who were also present. Going a step further, she even thought about the fans that weren't able to attend her concert by creating a phone call event.
In most concerts, time to time singers use different facial expression to take over the concert arena, however instead of using this technique, IU created a comfortable and emotional atmosphere in the concert arena.
Most of all, instead of showing the difference between the past and the present IU through her songs and dance, IU showed how much more she could improve in the future. Although 2AM and Lee Seunggi did perform as guests, IU was able to make people throw away their worries of how a 20 year old singer could lead a concert by herself.
Starting in Seoul, after her 6 city tour ends, we wonder how mature she would become when she gets back on stage.

What Yoo Ji Tae, Lee Ki Woo and Rain have in common?
On June 14tth, 2012, an interesting article with the title of "three shoulder men" was posted on a community forum, attracting attention.
The three "shoulder men" mentioned in the article are Yoo Ji Tae, Lee Ki Woo and Rain. In the photo, Yoo Ji Tae and Park Gun Hyung in "Three Fellas" sat side by side in the bathhouse. Park Gun Hyung has short stature, so the Yoo Ji Tae's shoulder width looks almost double. Imagine that when using wooden ladle for watering the body when taking bath, he probably may have to spend twice the amount of water by others.
Lee Ki Woo is also the well-known "skeleton king" among actors. With height over 190 cm, broad shoulders, and physique that nobody would doubt even if saying that he is a boxing player, he can highlight the 'famous shoulder' with even just a casual T-shirt.
When debuting, Rain was well-known for his "pacific shoulders." In his previous drama, there is a scene where he is sent to hospital. At the same, the width of shoulders which is similar to the stretcher, is occupying the stretcher to the fullness, triggering intense discussion.
The three "shoulder men" has a similarity, that they all have the height over 185cm, but have a small face.
Netizens said, "Shoulders that make everyone wants to have," "The shoulders' width of 3 persons should adds up to 5 meters," and so on.

From the butt-shakin' hit "Mister" to the psychedelic tunes of "Step", Korean girl group KARA has come a long way to attain their global standing in K-Pop-dom today. One of the most successful Korean imports to Japan, the five-member group (Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeong, Nicole Jung, Goo Hara and Kang Jiyoung) catapulted to instant stardom with their hip-swaying dance moves and mild-mannered ways.
While they have chalked up numerous chart-topping Oricon hits and No.1 bestsellers, before they became a household name in Japan, the group had more lows than highs in the course of their idol careers. They had a lacklustre debut, underwent a reformation with two new members -- when ex-lead singer Kim Sunghee left the group -- and got embroiled in a legal lawsuit over contractual dispute, which was eventually amicably resolved out of court in 2011.
Nervous and excited to be meeting their Singaporeans fans for the first time this July during the launch of their first signature fragrance K5J (Kara 5 Jewel) at their KARA showcase, the members could hardly contain their excitement in an e-mail interview with xinmsn.
Apart from expressing their gratitude towards fans in light of their historical milestone - the launch of their signature fragrance - the girls also spoke of their most memorable fan encounter with a visually handicapped fan during the KARASIA Japan tour.
What kind of fans attracts KARA's attention during their showcase and what should you do to stand out? Read on for more!
xinmsn: How do you cope with your global popularity? Does it surprise you when you travel to a new place and see tons of fans?
KARA: Each member has their own Twitter account. As we check Twitter, numerous fans from different countries cheer us up all the time. We are always surprised by fans who come to the airport and greet us - we feel like we've got the whole world right beside us.
xinmsn: What is one of the most memorable fan encounters you guys had?
KARA: We remember one couple who is around 50 years old, whom we met in Yokohama during the KARASIA Japan tour. This husband took his visually-handicapped wife to attend KARASIA and she said, 'I couldn't see [your concert] but I feel your concert. I felt very happy, thanks for your hard work.' When we read this article the next day, we decided to work even harder for the fans who love us.
xinmsn: If you had more time in Singapore, where would you like to visit?
KARA: We want to travel everywhere in Singapore! We heard the Dolphin Show is very impressive and we especially want to visit Sentosa Island. We heard the water is so clean and beautiful. As a matter of fact, we want to visit everywhere we possibly can visit.
xinmsn: Amongst the five of you, which member takes the longest to get ready?
KARA: As we are always wearing full makeup while we are on stage, we prefer to not wear too much makeup when we are in our casual attire. All of us do not take too much time to prepare before we go out but Ji-young loves to sleep, so sometimes, she comes out just a little later than the other members.
xinmsn: What kind of fans would capture your attention in the audience?
KARA: Fans who are dancing and singing with us while we are on stage!! Come and enjoy with us 200%!

Jakarta – JYJ's Junsu successfully held a concert at JITEC, Mangga Dua Square, Jakarta, Saturday (6/16/2012). He was in Jakarta for the 'XIA The 1st Asia Tour Concert Tarantallegra'.
The concert was supposed to begin at 7:00PM Western Indonesian Time. But until 8:00PM Western Indonesian Time, Junsu has not yet appeared on stage. The fans then repeatedly chanted his name "Kim Junsu".
The awaited concert finally started out around 8:40PM Western Indonesia Time. The stage was suddenly filled with lights from fireworks, plus green laser highlights. Junsu was standing on stage with a dark blue suit and immediately sang the song 'Breath' and continued with 'No Gain'.
Both songs were welcomed by the audience with hysterical screams. Especially in the second song, Junsu was dancing with two female dancers who was dressed sexily.
"How are you? I'm Xia. I'm pleased to meet you," Junsu said in fluent Indonesian language without any 'cheat sheet'. He also continued to bestow his warm smile. "The next song will make you fall asleep," Junsu continued, translated by an interpreter. Then 'Lullaby' and 'Intoxication' were sung.
Junsu sang 17 songs live. Although he was sweating due to non-stop dancing, he looked so exhilarated.
'Set Me Free' was next on the playlist. Laser and blue lights were everywhere. The audiences were singing along. After changing his clothes into an all-white suit, he then sang a drama soundtrack from 'Scent of Woman' called 'You are So Beautiful'. Again, the audiences were singing along as well. Festive!
The difference between Junsu's concert with other Kpop concert is, the audiences were dominated by mature audiences, not teenage schoolgirls. Understandably, Junsu first debuted in 2003 thus his fans were more mature already.
"Are you happy? Happy? Thank you!" Junsu said as he continued laughing (t/n: he also said the sentence in Indonesian language). "Even though I sing here, I can't believe that I'm standing in Indonesia. I'm so happy to be able to come here for the first time," he continued.
The audiences hysterically screamed when Junsu said that he would grant 3 wishes. The interpreter then was helping him. Junsu had to do an 'aegyo' (t/n: he gave us his angel smile ^^). For a moment he acted cutely then shyly nodded.
The audiences went uncontrollably with the second request. They shouted together "Open your clothes! Open your clothes!" Unfortunately the request was ignored by the interpreter. Junsu ended up just shouting his trademark shout "Bambaya!"
Junsu looked so sweet. He couldn't stop smiling and laughing, enjoying his performances. The fans firmly united chanting "Saranghae! Saranghae!" (I love you in Korean language).
'Even Though You Already Know' and 'Turn Around and Around' was then sung. Ocean of red light sticks were swaying back.
'The Last Dance' from Junsu's musical 'Elizabeth' was next performed. Of course with a dazzling musical style. The dancers wore masks and black lace robe. The screen behind the stage displaying Big Ben in the middle of full moon.
This segment seemed to show Junsu as a successful musical actor. Next he sang the song 'I am, I am Music' from the musical that he was also staring 'Tears of Heaven'. Junsu looked so engrossed in his performance.
'Why Don't You Love Me' from musical 'Mozart' took over the stage. The screen behind displaying image of a castle complete with its chandeliers that adding a melancholy atmosphere. Not to mention Junsu's vocal quality which is fit and extraordinary. It felt like watching a real musical. Good job, Junsu!
Intro of Tarantallegra! was finally heaved, welcoming with fireworks explosion and fire that burst from the edge of stage. Junsu's spell was successful, the audiences continued to shout fan-chants. Tarantallegra!
Tired. Junsu who was sweating sat for a few minutes in red sofa that suddenly appeared in front of the stage. He just sat motionless without saying anything. Impatient audiences chanted his name repeatedly "Kim Junsu! Kim Junsu!".
Junsu stood right in front of the stage. Again fireworks were bursting and lasers were dancing. 'Fever', 'Too Love', and 'Mission' became the next songs. The concert was almost over. Junsu's dancing was even more energetic and vibrant.
Junsu changed his clothes for about 6 times. At the end, he wore a shirt written 'XIA The 1st Asia Tour Concert Tarantallegra' combined with gold pants and calf-length boots. He sat in a high chair and sang 'I Don't Like Love' and 'The Tree Covered The Dew'.
While he sang, Junsu was taking a plushie given by an audience in the front row. Confetti was scattered like snow. 'Fallen Leaves' was closed with clapping from the audiences and Junsu bowed to bid goodbye. "Thank you!" he ended, forming a heart shape with his both hands.
9 years of existence in Korean music world really made Junsu able to prove his quality. Without hydraulic stage or excessive special effects, Junsu's performances were still incredibly stunning. Fans went out with satisfaction. See you again, Junsu!
