J.Y. Park attends press conference for ’5 Million Dollar Baby’ + top stars attend VIP Premiere

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 09:20 AM PDT

Singer and producer J.Y. Park who has made his big-screen acting debut through new film ‘5 Million Dollar Man‘ has expressed his support for the movie.

The VIP Premiere for ’5 Million Dollar Man’ (directed by Kim Ik Ro) was held in Seoul July 12th. A press conference was held after the preview with Director Kim, along with J.Y. Park, Min Hyo Rin, Cho Hwe Bong, Oh Jung Sae, and more.

When asked which side of himself he finds more attractive, as a singer or an actor, J.Y. Park responded, “As of right now, I am less-embarrassed as an artist, most likely because that’s something I have been doing for the past 18 years. But because I’m trying my hand at acting in a movie for the first time, I am quite embarrassed. When I listen to songs like “Don’t Leave Me” and “Behind You” from my first album which became hits, I know that I couldn’t sing that well back then but there was some good to those times as well. This movie is extremely embarrassing, but it is my first project, and the sides of me that shine through this movie will probably become treasurable in the future.”

He continued, “Filming movies are so much fun, I would like to continue to do so. The fun in acting and singing are very similar. The process of believing a lie and getting others to believe it too is very similar.

When asked why he did not have a love scene with Min Hyo Rin, J.Y. Park responded, “I don’t understand why we were not given such a scene. The director and the writer remarked that the public would not want to see such a thing. I hope I am blessed with that kind of scene in the future.”

’5 Million Dollar Man’ opens in theaters July 19th.

[Review][Single] Wooyoung “Sexy Lady”

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 04:12 AM PDT

A few Hottests were probably surprised when JYP Entertainment announced that Wooyoung would be the first 2PM member to release a solo album. After all, Junsu proved that he had solo star potential with his digital single Alive, and Taecyeon demonstrated his musical talents earlier this year by performing two self-written songs at 2PM’s ‘Beautiful Days‘ concert. But that doesn’t make Wooyoung a bad choice for a solo album. He’s cute, charismatic, a great dancer and performer, and was one of the standouts on KBS’ first season of Dream High.

So, with that said, I had high hopes for Wooyoung’s solo debut, but his first single, “Sexy Lady”, has failed to impress me.

With a title like “Sexy Lady”, it’s pretty clear from the start just what the song is going to be about. Wooyoung sings about being hit on by cute and innocent girls, but reveals that it’s actually a sexy lady who is able to get his heart racing. It’s not particularly interesting because the subject matter isn’t very original or creative, and Wooyoung doesn’t say anything scandalous enough to give the lyrics any kind of sexual shock factor that might have made the song more attention-grabbing.

The production isn’t any better, with a generic electro-pop lead that’s repeated to the point of annoyance, and a forgettable dance beat underneath.

Wooyoung is an okay singer, and thus he does an adequate job vocally on “Sexy Lady”, but it’s the actual arrangement that brings the song down more than Wooyoung’s actual voice. It’s very repetitious, and not in the good sense.

One of the biggest issues with “Sexy Lady” is that there seems to be a lot of discord between the actual music and the vocal track. It often feels like the beat doesn’t fit with what Wooyoung is singing, which is a problem that also plagued RaNia‘s debut single Dr. Feel Good, which actually isn’t a whole lot different to “Sexy Lady” — except for the fact that it’s a whole lot better.

With such a weak song, you’d hope that Wooyoung would be able to somewhat compensate with a good concept, right? This is JYP Entertainment, who recently put together some eye-catching concepts and music videos for Wonder Girls (Like This), miss A (Touch), and Jo Kwon (Animal / I’m Da One). Unfortunately, even Wooyoung’s concept is as dull as the song itself, with it resembling nothing more than a sexier version of 2PM’s clubbing concept for their hit Hands Up.

Overall, “Sexy Lady” makes for a very disappointing solo debut. From a member of one of K-Pop’s biggest and best boy bands, this should have been much, much better.

4Men’s Shin Yong Jae drops details and release date for his solo album

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 02:20 AM PDT

Previously, we reported that 4Men‘s maknae, Shin Yong Jae, was preparing to release his first solo album. He has recently revealed more details concerning the album, which will be titled ’24′ and released on July 27th.

’24′ will consist of six new songs. Two of these songs, including the title single, were lyrically and musically composed by Shin Yong Jae himself. As it is known that Shin Yong Jae has been working on his album for while, it is expected to contain high quality music. The singer seems to have particular confidence in it, as it will be released on the day when the London 2012 Olympics commence. Most singers have a tendency to avoid releasing anything around the Olympics season, as they assume that the general public will be more inclined to have a greater interest for sports than for music during that time.

4Men’s label’s representatives themselves have acknowledged that concern. “We are worried about the nation’s great interest in the Olympics, but rather than [avoid] it, we have decided to stick to our schedule and progress with promotions,” they explained, and added, “It will be an album that won’t disappoint the many anticipating music fans.

Ahead of this release, Shin Yong Jae will first meet fans at the Jamsil Stadium on the 15th along with singers Lee Jung, Lim Jeong Hee, and Ailee for a ‘Voice 4 Concert’.

2AM’s Jo Kwon sheds tears after receiving a surprise visit from Jinwoon on ‘Strong Heart’

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 01:47 AM PDT

2AM‘s Jo Kwon shed a few hot tears when fellow group member Jinwoon made a surprise appearance during his shoot for SBSStrong Heart‘.

On the July 10th broadcast, Jo Kwon remarked, ”I’ve never once fought with the 2AM members during our 4 years together“. He added, “But there was one time I was saddened by them.

He continued, “I stayed up nearly 3 days and nights filming my solo MV, but they never even stopped by once. I talked to Wooyoung who was also filming a MV, and he said all the 2PM members came to see him, so I became really sad.

Jo Kwon continued to express his hurt feelings saying, “I even texted them on the last day of my shoot, but still no one came.

After his rant, Boom announced that he had a surprise for the singer. “We invited a special guest just for you Jo Kwon,” he said. “Who do you want to see the most right now?

Naturally, Jo Kwon answered that he missed his 2AM members the most, and suddenly, fellow group member Jinwoon made his entrance from the back of the stage.

Seeing the flowers in Jinwoon’s hands, Jo Kwon could not hold back the emotional tears that began to flow from his eyes.

Jo Kwon admitted, “It was really difficult preparing for my solo album, and I thought of my members a lot.” Jinwoon then handed Jo Kwon the audience members the individually wrapped roses asking them to cheer on Jo Kwon for his solo promotions.

Your solo song and the choreography are all very cool,” Jinwoon said. He then stated he had one more thing to say. As Jo Kwon anticipated, Jinwoon shouted, “Wooyoung, fighting!” making the studio laugh at his joking betrayal of Jo Kwon and Wooyoung to stand up and give him a high five.

The two 2AM members then confirmed their friendship and loyalty as they hugged each other warmly.
