SBS’s ‘Inkigayo’ revamps its program by removing Take 7 and the Mutizen Song award

Posted: 10 Jul 2012 07:39 AM PDT

SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo‘ has decided to abolish its rank and award system.

Beginning on July 15th, ‘Inkigayo’ will be removing its Take 7, where the seven of the most popular artists from that week are featured, and the Mutizen Song award.

A producer of the show explained to Newsen through a phone call stating, “We believe that rather than the ranking system, the most important thing is the genre K-Pop being recognized worldwide. Therefore, we have decided to abolish the system after much discussion. There’s really no meaning behind a ranking system. We have decided to undergo this change in hopes that viewers can just enjoy the music.”

There are a lot of K-Pop stars in the music industry that have talent. We wanted to break free from the repetitive system, in which artists release new songs and perform, so we plan on redesiging our system by having the concept of more special stages . For viewers to enjoy the music, we will have more collaboration stages and much more.”

With ‘Inkigayo’ following MBC‘s ‘Music Core‘ of becoming an awardless program, KBS‘s ‘Music Bank‘ remains as the only music program from the three major broadcasting stations with the awarding system.

SHINee member Jonghyun’s shoulder has a face?

Posted: 10 Jul 2012 04:27 AM PDT

SHINee member Jonghyun has revealed a rather peculiar image of his shoulder.

On July 9th, the idol took to Twitter with the picture above along with a brief explanation, naming the culprit: “Key, the guy who fooled around with my shoulder.

In the picture, Jonghyun is seen wearing a sleeveless shirt and training pants. Fellow member Key seems to have taken advantage of Jonghyun’s exposed shoulder, as he has decorated it with a man’s face, complete with facial hair.

Fans who saw the Twitter update, however, appeared more impressed with Jonghyun’s physique rather than with Kibum’s work of art, as they commented, “How big are Jonghyun’s triceps for the face to be that big?,” “Look at Jonghyun’s muscles! This picture was taken really well,” and, “Jonghyun must have exercised a lot [because] those bulging muscles look awesome.

Regardless of whether it’s Jonghyun’s arm decoration or the arm itself that grabs your attention, it is still an amusing photo.

Visit Korea Committee releases popularity ranking of which artists were covered most in the ‘K-Pop Cover Dance Festival’

Posted: 10 Jul 2012 03:01 AM PDT

The Visit Korea Committee (chairman Shin Dong Bin) released a star ranking chart based off of which artists participants chose to cover for the ‘Visit Korea’s Yearly K-Pop Cover Dance Festival‘ from April 26th to July 10th. The videos were analyzed and this ranking was done by how many participants from each continent covered a certain artist.

1,350 teams participated from 50 countries from 6 continents and out of these teams, 155 of them covered Girls' Generation which ranked the girls first, second place was SHINee with 98 covers, miss A in third with 79 covers, SISTAR fourth with 75 covers, and 2NE1 came in fifth with 70 covers.

If you look at the popularity ranking for each continent, it shows that Girls’ Generation and SHINee are the most popular worldwide, but it also shows that all K-Pop groups in general are receiving love from oversea fans. SISTAR, who has not yet started official overseas activities, has been drawing attention for their steady rise in popularity after being appointed as the ambassador for the ‘K-Pop Cover Dance Festival’ on June 25th.

This will be the second ‘K-Pop Cover Dance Festival’ following the first one that was held last year. Through the homepage for the ‘2012 K-Pop Cover Dance Festival‘, the teams who passed the first round of the online preliminaries will be in the second round that will be between the participants in each country. The winning teams of the second round will then be invited to Korea and will be competing in the ‘Cover Dance Final Stage‘, which will be held in September at North Kyungsang Province’s Kyung Joo.

It is planned that SISTAR will be the judges for the second round, for the country that has the most participants.
