Jun Hye Bin captures wild duck with bare hands on ‘Laws of the Jungle 2′

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Jun Hye Bin‘s successful hunt and capture of a wild duck in Madagascar was aired on the October 21st broadcast of ‘Laws of the Jungle 2‘.

On this episode, Kim Byung Man treaded into smelly waters that had rotting wood sunken on the bottom for the sake of hunting a duck. The duck would appear, then disappear, frustrating and tiring the jungle crew after multiple failures. The ‘tribal chief’ expressed his frustration, saying, “When we find it on land, it disappears into the water. When we go into the water, it goes on the land as if it’s playing hide and seek.”

During the midst that Kim Byung Man was letting out his frustration, Jun Hye Bin yelled out from somewhere – she had captured the duck with her bare hands. She had ventured into a deeper corner without cameras and had successfully captured the elusive waterfowl.

She expressed her surprise, saying how at first she didn’t think it would get caught. “I really didn’t expect to catch it, but a moment later, there it was captured in my hands,” she said in a post-interview.  “I was surprised and confused on what to do. Although it’s a shame that there were no cameras to capture the moment, I think it was because there were no cameras that I succeeded.”

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 07:59 AM PDT

The SBS variety show ‘Running Man‘ recently release a thrill-packed preview for next week’s highly anticipated episode featuring Miss A‘s Suzy and Wonder GirlsYubin.

The cast and guests can be seen on a giant pinwheel of sorts, attempting to decipher a puzzle, leaving viewers wondering what kinds of challenging games and puzzles ‘Running Man’ will have up its sleeve next week.

Check out the preview below! Are you looking forward to Suzy and Yubin on ‘Running Man’?

Style Breakdown: Miss A’s “I Don’t Need A Man”

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 07:30 AM PDT

Up until last year, if the subject of my singleness came up, people would always say, “Oh, don’t worry, you have time yet.”  Then, some time last year, the conversation changed- it went from “you have plenty of time” to “You’re not getting any younger… have you tried online dating?” Sigh.  I guess it’s no surprise that miss A’s latest single, “I Don’t Need a Man“, totally hits home for me.  In contrast to their sad, fragile images in February’s, “Touch“, this video has the girls sporting a tough, independent image with fashion to match.

For some of their individual shots, the girls wore white oxford shirts and black pants.  They all wore messy ponytails, dark eyeliner, and nude lips.  Min accessorized with a studded tie, Fei with a black hat and a polka-dot scarf in her chest pocket, Suzy with suspenders, a bow tie, and a finger mustache, and Jia with a black blazer and a mustache shaped pin.  Meanwhile, Jia’s dog wears a little doggy-sized suit and accessorizes with pink and gold chains. Suzy’s styling is my favorite in this group of shots, as the suspenders and tie give the shirt a little more definition.

For other scenes, the girls wore tight leather and plaid as they stood near classic symbols of femininity- such as red lipstick and stiletto pumps- contrasted with imagery used in the song- such as a car (which, in the song, they say they bought with their own hard work and money) and physical strength (demonstrated by Jia’s flexed biceps).  The red patches on Fei’s jacket make a heart shape when she has her arms down, contrasting a masculine cut with a feminine detail.  Min’s red belt is an interesting style point against her black leather minidress, but it’s Jia’s striking pants that look especially great in this set.  By contrasting feminine items such as crop tops, mini dresses, and stiletto knee-highs, with lyrics and images that speak of a woman making her own way in life, the girls show that femininity does not preclude strength and independence.

Black and beige are a color combo that has been all over the runway recently.  Miss A’s take on the look involved crop tops, black shorts, beige blazers, and chunky ankle boots.

In front of a graffiti-style mural of their band name, the girls danced in matching blazers, short shorts, and stiletto boots.  I think Min pulls this look off best, as her lighter hair contrasts with the dark outfit- the other girls are a little boxed in by having so much black so close to their faces in such a high-contrast shot.

In this scene, the girls get to wear more diverse outfits.  Suzy wears a black crop top, leather shorts, and an open, plaid button-down with a pair of black wedge heels and chain necklaces. Jia wears a white graphic tee with an ankle-length, white, tulle skirt and black boots with a black cuff bracelet and a black fingerless glove, as well as a narrow silver crown on top of her head.  Fei also wears a graphic, cropped tee and leather shorts with black boots.  Min wears a grey mini-dress with matching shorts, gold chains and pins, black boots, and a black fingerless glove.  These outfits and the corresponding sets we find the girls in (a beauty salon, a jewelry store, etc.) are another look at stereotypical feminine imagery, and how women can exist within those stereotypes and still be strong and independent.

They all kept their hair very simple throughout, though Fei has my favorite accessory of the video with her tiara-like headband.  Jia went for a red lip, but otherwise the makeup in these scenes was clean and basic.

For the main dance sequences, the girls wore matching polka dot crop tops, grey blazers, black shorts, and work boots.  I love Fei’s fluffy hair!  As opposed to some of the very feminine or very masculine looks they wear in other parts of the video, this look is a kind of middle-ground between the two.

All in all, the girls look like they’re ready to take on the world, which just adds to the song’s ideas of hard work and independence.  By wearing a wide range of styles- from a menswear-inspired button-down and a finger mustache or a super-feminine minidress, or even a bridal-inspired tulle skirt and tiara- miss A shows us that any woman, regardless of what people think about her at first glance, can be an independent lady who lets people into her life because she wants them there, not because she needs them there.  She doesn’t have to choose between femininity and strength- she can have as much of both as she wants!

My favorite outfits are Jia’s plaid pants and crop top and Min’s grey minidress and shorts- what are your favorites?

Kwanghee will go to the grave with After School’s UEE?

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 07:04 AM PDT

Kwanghee confessed his first love was After School‘s UEE.

On the 20th’s episode of ‘We Got Married‘, Kwanghee and Sunhwa talked about their first loves. The conversation started when the on-screen couple was talking about famous maxims, and Kwanghee quoted, “A man’s first love follows him to the grave.” Sunhwa was put out at his mention of first love, but tried to cover it up by joking, “Bye“.

However, Kwanghee did not notice her mood and said, “Does that mean I have to go with UEE?“. Sunhwa snapped back, “I guess I have to go with Siwan oppa, then.

The viewers laughed but, a few critics pointed out that Kwanghee could be a little more sensitive to Sunhwa, saying, “It’s a joke, but she must still get jealous“, and “Kwanghee just doesn’t get women“.

Music Therapy: Fall Playlist

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 06:00 AM PDT

It's that time of year again. The wind is blowing harder, the sky is getting grayer, and the yellow and orange leaves are starting to tumble into your path. Summer is long gone, and without it, you find yourself wrapping up in thicker layers and confronting a chill that only foreshadows the cold you will soon feel come winter. It's Fall, and you may not be very happy about the fact. Maybe you're not the type of person who really enjoys this depressing kind of weather. Maybe you just miss the summer heat, the summer beach, the summer fun.

Fall, however, is a great season on its own, and as you survey your surroundings, you may just need some calming, soulful tunes to help you see the somber beauty of it. In this edition of Music Therapy, allkpop presents a playlist to help get you started.

PART 1: Alone in the Rain

Epik High's "Umbrella" ft. Younha: Autumn rainfall tends to be particularly gloomy and gray, so why not listen to some slow, piano songs that highlight its strangely sad charm? Epik High's melancholy rapping and Younha's soft vocals will especially have you appreciating the pitter-patters of the rain, and may even make you a bit contemplative and emotional, as they sing about the loneliness of being without the person they love, their figurative "umbrella".

One [day] new rainwater pooled around my ankles and
the tears that I held back pooled up in my eyes and
I cry.

You are the umbrella above my head.
The cold, raining night [sky] above my shoulders.
And I, who has become too used to you being by my side,
I can't [live] without you.
Alone in the rain.

Additional Recommendations:

Noel – “I Miss You”

Skip to 1:30 for the song

Nell – “The Day Before”

Recommended by saykpop on tumblr.

PART 2: The Autumn Cold

Sunny Hills’ “Pray”: Although it’s not the blasting, finger-numbing cold of the winter, autumn has a chilliness to it that will have you shivering in your jacket and boots. In situations where you find that you have no choice but to stand in the unbearable cold, take a listen to Sunny Hills’ song, as their soft and breezy vocals reflect the harsh winds you will have to face, but also add a haunting, tragic, yet pretty quality to the freezing weather.

Wake up the me who has frozen,
Turn the time that has frozen.
Like yesterday, show only me that smile.

The concealed sadness is squeezing out,
the concealed pain is rising.
"Let's break up," those words are not, not, not, not it.

Additional Recommendations:

2NE1 – “It Hurts”

GDragon – “That XX”

PART 3: The Changing Colors

Ivy’s “Goodbye Tears”: Despite the dominating, sad weather, there is at least one bright characteristic to appreciate about autumn–the colorful leaves. And Ivy’s particularly uplifting tune, powerful vocals, and hopeful lyrics about changing into a better person seem to especially fit this aspect of the season, as you admire the leaves and their strange ability to change from green to even more beautiful shades.

I won't cry, I won't ever look like an ugly fool again,
because this is a heart that has grown as much as it has been pained.
Even though it's hard, could you stay by my side so that my heart can lean against you?
To my yesterday, to my scars, to my tears, I now [say], "Goodbye".

Additional Recommendations:

Jaejoong – “Forgotten Season”

Recommended by cheakie18 on tumblr.

4men – “Baby Baby”

With that, we conclude our Fall Playlist edition of Music Therapy. Let us know what you thought of our selection in your comments below, make your own suggestions, and don’t forget to follow us on our allkpop tumblr to contribute to future playlists! Until then, enjoy the autumn season!

allkpop Radar: Eunji

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 04:20 AM PDT

If there’s one word that best describes Eunji’s appeal, it would be “refreshing”. After debuting as the powerhouse vocalist of A Pink and showcasing her natural acting talent in her latest drama ‘Reply 1997‘, Eunji has proven both to the K-pop and K-drama world that she is not just another pretty-face, amateur idol. She is someone legitimately talented, bursting with potential. And as she continues to charm the public with her cheerful visuals and fresh, bold attitude, she may come to rise as one of Korea’s favorite celebrities.

A Pink’s Eunji was first introduced to the K-pop industry as a cute teenage girl with deep and powerful vocals. After revealing her to the public via her cover of Jennifer Hudson‘s “I Love You I Do“, Cube Entertainment continued to expose Eunji’s singing talent by giving her the ad-libbing portions of A Pink’s songs, having her sing during variety show appearances, and arranging a collaboration between her and B2ST member Yoseob for their project ‘A Cube for Season‘. Upon discovering her, fans would comment, “Finally, an idol with actual singing talent!” For many, it was a nice change to hear from an idol who could actually call herself a singer, rather than someone with a decent karaoke-night voice.

As A Pink steadily rose in popularity with hits like “I Don’t Care“, “My My“, and “Hush“, Eunji herself continued to maintain a fanbase appreciative of her talents. It was only when she made her acting debut in the wildly popular ‘Reply 1997′ in the lead role of Siwon, however, that the Korean public really took notice of her. Almost everyone who watched ‘Reply 1997′ fell in love with Eunji’s Siwon for her aggressive, down-to-earth, and tomboyish character. Siwon was considered a refreshing change from the typically clueless, gentle, and fragile female protagonist often seen in Korean dramas, and as Eunji was able to act naturally, people began to associate Eunji and Siwon closely together.

And like Siwon, Eunji herself has proven that she is not just another female personality that can be easily overlooked. In fact, rather than a girly idol who smiles simply, giggles bashfully, and tries to maintain her image in exchange for stifling her actual 4D self, Eunji has always been one to remain true to her Busan dialect and to tease people in a bold, yet humorous way. “CEO, let’s lose weight!” she once said to the head of Cube Entertainment, poking fun at him for making the A Pink members go on a diet. “Only I can play ['Reply 1997's] Siwon,” she told After School‘s Lizzy when battling over the title ‘Saturi Idol’. “Please control yourself,” she joked with co-star Seo In Guk, taking his love confession to a funny and cute level, rather than letting it die awkwardly between them.

Eunji has flaunted not only her great talent, but her equally great sense of humor to the public. And although she has garnered negative criticism recently for getting too bold and too aggressive on ‘1000 Song Challenge‘, this one instance hasn’t been enough to hinder the momentum behind her fame. While her ‘Reply 1997′ OST collaborations with Seo In Guk still continue to dominate the charts, Eunji is currently receiving offers here and there, and has even been cast in the ‘Legally Blonde‘ musical alongside her highly popular senior, Girl’s Generation‘s Jessica.

The Korean entertainment business and fans all over the world have thus shown their increasing interest in A Pink’s Eunji–not as the typically pretty idol, but as the idol with the impressive capabilities and unique personality that set her apart. Considering her fresh appeal, there is a high possibility that she may become one of the more memorable and loved idols of her generation, securing a large, stable fanbase for herself, and also leading her own girl group into a bright future of great fame.

Who Wore it Better: BTOB’s Ilhoon vs. SISTAR’s Bora

Posted: 21 Oct 2012 02:38 AM PDT

BTOB‘s Ilhoon has made it into this column once before for his hat in the “WOW” music video. Well, it’s a new day with a new hat and another female idol is doing her own spin on the style.  Ilhoon won his last WWIB by a landslide- can he win again, or will SISTAR‘s Bora take it this time around?

In “WOW”, Ilhoon wore this black hat with silver spikes with a black and white tank, silver chains, white pants and shoes, a skull-shaped belt buckle, white and metal bracelets, and a white sweatband.

For SISTAR’s cover of 2PM‘s “Hands Up” at the October 11 ‘M! Countdown Smile Thailand‘ special, Bora wore the hat with a red jersey, black shorts, and white shoes.  Unlike Ilhoon, she wore her hat backwards and to the side.

The hat can be purchased at Stylenanda’s website for ~$40 USD.

So, who wore it better?  Cast your vote in the poll and be sure to tell us why you voted that way in the comments!

Epik High has released their 7th album, '99'.

According to YG Entertainment, the Epik High members named the album '99′ for a number of reasons: their love of the number "9″, the 9 songs in the album (plus one short track), and the aim to "[embrace] the meaning of music" for 99% of people, not the top 1%. The album includes two title tracks: "UP" featuring Park Bom of 2NE1 and "Don't Hate Me", a song promoting the group's "anti-hate" campaign.
