Psy’s “Gangnam Style” breaks Girls’ Generation’s “Gee” consecutive win record on ‘Music Bank’

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 08:33 AM PST

Psy set yet another record for himself.

Psy beat Lee Hi for the #1 spot on the November 16th episode of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Music Bank‘ winning for the 10th week in a row.

Psy previously set a new record for the most number of most wins on the show with 13 wins including this week. However, his consecutive win streak had been broken by KARA‘s “Pandora” after the 3rd week. Undeterred, the song kept winning #1 after that, building up more and more consecutive wins. The win today marked his 10th consecutive one on Music Bank, which was good enough to beat out the record previously set by Girls’ Generation‘s “Gee” with 9 consecutive wins.

This record is even more surprising because he never performed “Gangnam Style” on ‘Music Bank’.

Congratulations to Psy!

T-ara’s Eunjung requests withdrawal of sanction against ‘Five Fingers’ producers

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 06:04 AM PST

It’s been reported that T-ara‘s Eunjung has requested the withdrawal of the recent sanction against the producers of SBS‘ ‘Five Fingers‘. Issues first arose this past August when Eunjung was suddenly dropped from the drama without notice after T-ara’s bullying controversy.

The Korea Entertainment Management Association (KEMA) issued a letter on November 16 KST asking those in the industry to refrain from featuring in projects by the production company Yein E&M for two years.

KEMA stated, “Ham Eunjung’s contract with the drama was already finalized, and after she participated in poster shoots for drama promotions, the press conference, and first filming, [she was dropped, which is against usual regulations].” Her agency, Core Contents Media, filed a suit for 140 million Won ($128,225 USD) due to breach of contract.

Eunjung, who has wrapped up promotions of “Sexy Love” in Japan along with the rest of T-ara, heard the news overseas, and she’s reportedly asked KEMA to withdraw the two-year ban.

According to a press release from Core Contents Media, “After Eunjung saw the headlines in Japan, she contacted the agency and strongly requested that the sanction against the ‘Five Fingers’ producers be canceled as she does not want more victims [of the controversy other than herself].”

“Eunjung said that she thinks the producers received harm because of events that occurred at the time, and though she’s thankful that the Korea Entertainment Management Association has laid down the decision to protect actors, [she believes] everything is in the past. [She wishes for things to end well].”

CCM has relayed Eunjung’s message to KEMA, and KEMA has also announced her position on the matter.

Style Breakdown: Son Dam Bi’s “Dripping Tears”

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 05:35 AM PST

After more delays than I can count, Son Dam Bi is finally back! In the “Dripping Tears” music video, she acts out the story of a woman who has been pushed to the brink.

We start out in a dream sequence, which immediately reminded me of Lady Gaga‘s “Bad Romance” video. Son Dam Bi wears just a black crop top, black shorts, black shoes, and a bleached-blonde wig. For makeup, she does a very pale base with eyeliner on only her top lid and orange eye shadow, which gives her a sickly, almost alien look. The other-worldliness of this look is underscored by the very strangely dressed backup dancers.

We flash back to the beginning of the story, with Son Dam Bi sitting alone on her bed, wearing a sheer, white shirt. Unlike the first scene, she went for a simple, natural makeup look and tousled hair.

Check out that hat! If you wear a fascinator, all eyes will definitely be on you. For these scenes, she wears a sleek, asymmetrical bob. She was wise to keep her earrings simple, as an elaborate earring with the fancy hat and pile of necklaces would have been a little too much for this look. She keeps her makeup pretty simple as well, going for a subtle cat’s eye and just a touch of lip color.

Hey, look, we can see the backup dancers! Here, Son Dam Bi and her dancers coordinate in black dresses, which are made interesting by the use of differently textured fabrics, such as the shiny material at the top of Son Dam Bi’s skirt, the sheer fabric below, and the opaque, matte fabric of her shirt.

I’ve never seen a straitjacket with pink trim before, but I guess if you’re Son Dam Bi you don’t settle for the boring jacket. She’s back to the long blonde wig and accessorizes with a pair of white socks and black pumps (I told you socks and heels were a trend!). She only wears the jacket for a few moments though, before she rips it off and reveals…

… a muppet costume! Okay, so actually it’s just a fluffy, pink vest over the same outfit she wore in the beginning of the video. Not sure where she hid that under the jacket.

At the end of the video, Son Dam Bi walks out of the ocean, alone, wearing a clingy, white dress, almost no makeup, and messy hair, proving that she really is a natural beauty.

Personally, I am obsessed with her feathered fascinator- what’s your favorite look from the video?  Did you feel like her styling helped tell the story she was trying to convey? Let us know in the comments!

Video of Song Joong Ki dancing to 4minute’s “Hot Issue” resurfaces

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 04:19 AM PST

A past video of Song Joong Ki dancing to 4minute‘s “Hot Issue“ has resurfaced.

The video, posted under the title “The dark history of Song Joong Ki”, shows the actor performing with fellow MC Seo Hyo Rim on ‘Music Bank‘ in 2009.

Fans couldn’t help but laugh at Song Joong Ki’s less-than-average performance and his awkwardness as he danced to the upbeat song on stage. However, he was able to pull off his outfit, a shiny green vest over a black top.

Netizens who saw the video commented, “It’s okay, it’s from the past“, “It’s so cute to see him try his best“, and “This really is a dark history, keke“.
