′Solo′ Yang Yoseob ″Once again feeling how precious the 5 members are″

Posted: 02 Dec 2012 05:00 AM PST

Group BEAST's vocal Yang Yoseob talks about releasing his first solo album 'THE FIRST COLLAGE'.

Yang Yoseob recently met up with Asia Today in his waiting room at a music show and said "Trying to stand on my own when it was always the 6 of us, I feel lonely and I can feel down to my bones how precious the 5 members are."

After he said "It feels awkward to sing by myself on stage when everything was always based off of all 6 members since we were trainees" and "I think of these solo activities as an extension line of BEAST. However I was very worried because I could cause harm to BEAST if I made a mistake. I'm getting better though every time I perform. he added.

About the first performance Yang Yoseob said "I was very nervous when I stepped on stage. It was the feeling I had when I first went on stage during high school when I was in the band" and "I was so nervous my legs were shaking and my heart was pounding. I'm not the type to be nervous usually but I was really anxious."

Yang Yoseob who is considered one of the best idol vocalists is planning to show his improved emotional spectrum with his solo album activities.

Yang Yoseob's first solo track 'Caffeine' is a song that maximizes his emotional voice and, the lyrical melody and sophisticated arrangement stands out. BEAST's Yong Junhyung and new composer Kim Taejoo participated in writing the lyrics, song, and producing the song and you can feel the strong and captivating, caffeine-like aroma from it.

About working with Yong Junhyung, Yang Yoseob stated Even before the solo album was released we shared a lot of music related talks saying 'I want to sing this kind of song' 'I wish you could write me this kind of song'" and "It started off like that but now I've released an album. Junhyung knows my musical range better than anyone else so I was able to work comfortably" he explained.

He also said "I even recorded the guide. While recording we both tuned it together" and "While working with Junhyung I was able to take off some of the pressure and work enjoyably" he added.

Yang Yoseob is running BEAST activities parallel to his solo activities. Recently he came back from performing in Vietnam and his schedules are so packed that he arrived the morning of his comeback day and doing all of these activities, the veins in his eyes popped.

He said "I can't sleep in the plane so I'm tired but it's ok. I'm having fun doing these activities" and "Because I think of my solo activities as an extension line of BEAST activities, I don't want to perform for 1~2 weeks like a special album. I also heard that fans waited a lot for this album. If possible I want to promote steadily. Please give me lots of love" he said.

Meanwhile Yang Yoseob continues his comeback stages December 2nd on SBS 'Inkigayo' with the title track 'Caffeine'.

26 Years opens in first place at the box office, Im SeuLong

Posted: 02 Dec 2012 04:30 AM PST

It's a good day for revenge film 26 Years — after losing investors due to its politically sticky subject matter, languishing in development for four more years, and then resurrected by collecting donations from netizens online (reportedly 5 million won from over 13,000 people), the movie finally saw the light of day, and opened in theaters at number one. Slow clap, people. Slow clap.

The project is based on a 2006 webtoon of the same name by Kang Pool, about a group of individuals who set out to get revenge for the Gwangju Massacre of 1980, 26 years after the fact. The target of their assassination plot? Ex-president Chun Doo-hwan. You can see why it's controversial — a wish-fulfillment revenge plot against a living ex-president is not for the faint of heart.

A little background: Chun Doo-hwan was the last dictator of South Korea who ruled from 1979 to 1988. He was technically only a military dictator from 1979 to 1980, and then won an "election" to the presidency in 1980, wherein he was the only candidate on the ballot. His term marks one the most turbulent political eras in modern Korean history, and his was the regime against which citizens rose up in organized demonstrations in May 1980, culminating in the Gwangju Massacre.

The movement and rebellion calling for democracy rose up in various parts of the country, but was most heated and most organized in Gwangju, where students took up arms in protest. The demonstration lasted days until the military came and quelled the movement. The death toll is still unknown to this day. Chun was belatedly tried for his crimes and sentenced to death, later overturned by life imprisonment, later overturned again with a reduced fine.

The film takes up 26 years after that event, when five characters who each lost a family member in May 1980 come together to find their own justice. Jin Gu (Moby Dick) plays a gangster; Han Hye-jin (Syndrome) a professional shooter (the athlete kind); Bae Soo-bin (49 Days) plays a businessman; Im Seul-ong (Acoustic) a young policeman, and Lee Kyung-young (Vampire Prosecutor 2) the head of a private security team. Jang Kwang plays a character they only call "That Man," aka ex-president Chun.

The directorial debut from Jo Geun-hyun (art director on The Royal Concubine) opened on November 29 with over 110,000 tickets sold, taking first place at the box office, and easily doubled the figure and then some on its second day out. Not bad for a movie partially funded by donations online. Sometimes, the internet rules.

26 Years is in theaters now.

Will The Doors Of Broadcasting Companies Open For JYJ? “Discussions Are Needed”

Posted: 02 Dec 2012 04:00 AM PST

Will the doors of broadcasting companies open for JYJ, who have been locked in a legal battle with their former agency SM Entertainment?

Following the announcement on the 28th that SM Entertainment and JYJ reached an agreement after three years locked in a legal battle, many are curious to see if this will lead to an appearance in broadcasted TV shows by JYJ.

According to legal circles, SM and the three members of JYJ reached an agreement that all contracts signed by the two parties had effectively ended on the 31st of July, 2009. All relevant lawsuits were to be dropped, and neither party would interfere with the opposite party's future activities.

With the end of the lawsuit, new possibilities have opened up for the three members of JYJ in the entertainment industry. When JYJ began their individual activities, they weren't able to appear on TV shows run by the three main broadcasting companies due to their lawsuit with SM. Though Park Yoochun and Kim Jaejoong have been making appearances on TV through dramas, they have not been able to appear on music programs or awards shows since releasing their albums.

For example, in May of 2011, KBS explained the reason why JYJ were not to appear on variety shows such as 'Music Bank' when they stated, "JYJ's lawsuit has not ended with their former agency. It is normal for us to wait and refrain from casting celebrities who are locked in legal battles, as their appearance on TV shows may influence the results of their lawsuits."

Now that an agreement has ended the lawsuit, the spotlight has shifted to the three main broadcasting companies. Many are curious to see if the end of the lawsuit that has freed JYJ from restrictions will give them the chance to appear on music programs or variety shows.

Regarding this, Jeon Jin Guk, the director of KBS' variety sector, stated in a phone conversation with OSEN that, "We heard the news through an article. I believe the details of our stance on the issue will be solidified through further discussion," and "I don't believe there will be any reason for us to refrain from allowing JYJ to appear on KBS TV shows if their lawsuit has come to a complete end, as that was the reason for our actions."

MBC's Won Mak Sik stated, "Though the lawsuit between the two parties has ended, we believe it is a problem that requires time to observe the situation." Another representative of MBC's variety sector explained, "We have not yet discussed the possibilities of JYJ appearing on music programs and variety shows," and "This is an issue that must be considered by the entire variety sector."

PD Park Seung Min of SBS' 'Inkigayo' gave a short statement of, "This is an issue for the entire variety sector to discuss. I can't say much because there hasn't been any discussion as of now."

JYJ’s Official Statement “A Monumental Verdict, We Thank The Fans For Their Support”

Posted: 01 Dec 2012 08:30 PM PST

JYJ's legal representative has released its official statement following JYJ's agreement with SM Entertainment.

On the 28th, SM Entertainment and the three members of JYJ came to the decision that all contracts signed by the two parties had officially ended on the 31st of July, 2009, the date the trio submitted their injunction.

JYJ's legal advisor Sejong stated, "Kim Jaejoong, Kim Junsu and Park Yoochun's nullification injunction against their former agency became the center of society's spotlight. By gaining two monumental verdicts against an unlawful lawsuit that abused the absolute weak position of trainees, they provided a decisive opportunity to eradicate and improve the conditions surrounding unlawful practices in the entertainment industry."

Sejong also added, "Because of this lawsuit, institutions such as the Fair Trade Commission, the Commission on Human Rights and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism have improved legal regulations to protect trainees and rookies. Above all, by raising awareness within the industry itself, the trio have set up a sturdy foundation for rookies to pursue activities freely in a safe environment, where they are protected by the law within entertainment agencies."

They continued to state, "Also, thanks to the cooperation of both forward-looking parties, we hope for more progress for JYJ through this agreement, which is equivalent to an outright victory."
