Hot Debut: YG's Newest Songstress, Lee Hi

These days, Korea runs on audition programs. From Superstar K to K-pop Star, we've seen our fair share of overnight superstars over the past three years. Roy Kim, Huh Gak, Park Ji Min, John Park — just to name a few.

Of all these diamonds in the rough, no soloist's debut single comes close to that of 16-year-old Lee Hi.
Stealing the hearts of viewers with her lovable onscreen awkwardness and her soulful performances, this 16-year-old siren placed second on the first season of SBS' Survival Audition K-pop Star last April. Her mature, smokey vocals earned her a plethora of nicknames, like "Reversal Girl" and "Grown-up Child" for her misleadingly childlike appearance and "Korea's Duffy" for her rendition of the Welsh singer-songwriter's "Mercy."
She soon signed with YG Entertainment, teasing fans a few months later with a guest feature on label mate Epik

High's "It's Cold," which showcased a softer, chill side to her vocals.
It was the perfect distraction. When Lee Hi finally made her official debut with the retro-soul brilliance of "1, 2, 3, 4," the single immediately conquered the major domestic music charts for a clean all-kill, sitting pretty at #1 for almost a full week.

A pretty great start to an illustrious career, if you ask us. So we have to ask, why does she rate her debut a 5/10? With her physical debut album just beyond the horizon, Lee Hi reflects on her K-pop Star roots, her newfound popularity and her YG-backed debut.

What's the best part about being an artist under YG? Have you gotten close with any of your seniors yet?
I am a very shy person, so I still feel a little awkward around the other YG artists. But I am going to approach them more often and try to get closer with them in the New Year.

What other artists do you dream of collaborating with in the future?
I'd like to collaborate with CL from 2NE1
In case you some how missed it, watch the 2NE1 and Lee Hi stage from the MBC Gayo below

TVXQ will be releasing a new single in Japan and pursuing activities there once again.

The Japanese version of 'Catch Me -If you wanna' and 'I Know' will be included in TVXQ's 36th Japanese single.

The song has already become a hot topic for being chosen as the title song for the FujiTV suspense drama 'Saki', which began airing on the 8th.

The second song 'I Know' is a melodious ballad that expresses the feelings of a man who swears an eternal love for his beloved, who has already changed her mind. The group plans to entrance their fans with a new kind of charm with 'I Know' as it is completely different from the powerful and charismatic title song 'Catch Me'.

Meanwhile, TVXQ will be starting their Dome Tour on the 27th of April at the Saitama Super Arena, as well as Tokyo Dome, Osaka Kyocera Dome, Fukuoka Yahoo! Japan Dome and Sapporo Dome.

At the start of 2013, Girls' Generation members ran an auction together with Beautiful Store to help patients diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that causes severe vision impairment and often blindness. This auction was initially proposed by Sooyoung and eventually they raised a total of 5,841,000 Won for the patients.

It started with a campaign named 'Sooyoung's wish for lights in the dark world' (수영과 함께 까만 세상에 빛을 희망해), organised by Beautiful Store, Daum and QTV. Girls' Generation members then donated their items which were put up for auction on Daum's site of Hope from December 16th, 2012 to January 5th, 2013.

The auction was meaningful since Sooyoung proposed herself, and all other members participated in support. Sooyoung had always cared for patients who lost their visions and is concerned about their treatment and disease prevention.

All proceeds will be donated to retinitis pigmentosa patients through Beautiful Store.
